A reminder about small things
A 57-year-old Tennessee grandma is THE biggest name in comedy right now.
Meet Leanne Morgan.
She's got a Southern drawl thicker than a bowl of oatmeal—and a wildly popular Netflix special. She recently appeared in a movie with Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell. She's also signed a deal to create her own sitcom.
And to think her stardom almost didn't happen.
Fact is, Leanne worked the comedy circuit (hard!) for nearly two decades. She found only marginal success. She admits she thought about quitting.
Then, around the time of the pandemic, she did a small thing.
She paid a couple of "young guys" to create short clips of her act and post them on social media.
One of those clips went viral.
And that, as they say, was that. (Did I mention Leanne now earns anywhere from $150K to $300K for a single performance?)
Leanne Morgan's crazy story reminds me that good things often come our way because of the small choices we make.
You agree to meet for coffee.
You send the proposal.
You make (or take) the call.
Question: What if all that's keeping you from more success in your business is one small action?
Need some ideas? Here are six...
Create a Google Business Profile for your business. (This will dramatically improve your visibility in local search results).
Ask happy clients for reviews and referrals. Most satisfied customers are glad to do this; they just aren't encouraged to do so.
Put those new, glowing testimonials on your website homepage. (Don't bury them on a separate page in the bowels of your site!) People trust what their peers say more than what business owners say.
Speaking of your website, test different call-to-action buttons (colors and text) on your highest-traffic pages. Small conversion rate increases compound over time.
Create a short email welcome sequence for new subscribers to your newsletter (instead of a single "meh" confirmation email). This can help you build trust and credibility from day one.
Partner with complementary (non-competing) businesses. Agree to cross-promote to each other's audiences through email or social media. This is great way to get the attention of pre-qualified prospects.
Am I saying these small actions will make you as rich and famous as Leanne Morgan?
No promises.
But then again, Leanne never realized how much one short video clip was about to transform her life.
BTW, if you need help doing any of those things, I'm here. I'd love to help.
